DISCUSSING WTC FINAL WITH MY DOG (THE DUDE), PART-I

The Dude and I are having a one-on-one discussion/pointless argument about who is gonna win the World Test Championship Final this Friday at The Ageas Bowl, Southampton.

And here is an excerpt from this pointless argument-

Dude- Why do you think India is gonna win? I don’t think they stand a chance against the mighty Kiwis.

I- Why do you think so? India has probably no flaws. Take out anyone from the squad, he is going to deliver no matter what.

Dude- Ok. Have you seen the Kiwis? They’ve got this new guy, what’s his name?

I- Who? The opener?

Dude- Ya man. Devon something.

I- Conway.

Dude- Ya Conway. S@#t man, he’s amazing. He plays flicks like he’s born with that.

I- Ya, I agree with that. But, he hasn’t been exposed to the outside-off delivery, going away from the batsman. I guess that may trouble him, and we’ve got Ishant for that. He’s been great against left-handers all throughout his career.

Dude- Ya ya whatever. Don’t you think Ishant just came out of nowhere? I mean he was there, but it’s just the last 3 or 4 years that he has been so good.

I- Ya, I think those County stincts with Yorkshire helped him a lot. Yorkshire, right?

Dude- Ya maybe. It also helped Pujara a lot. He was also in Yorkshire, right?

I- Ya I guess. Pujara has become a wall kind of player for us. He just bats and bats and bats. I love his temperament, man. There’re very few players like him in world cricket, right now. India must win, at least for the likes of Pujara and Ishant who have been so dedicated, and that too in one format.

Dude- Ya. The same applies for Ross Taylor. He’s been playing around for like 100 or more tests, I guess. I mean that’s another level of cricket. New Zealand must win for him.

I- I agree with you on that. He just played so freely and brilliantly against England. He is only getting better day by day, man; which is scary though from an Indian fan’s perspective.

Dude- Ya save yourself for another Ross Taylor masterstroke in the finals.

I- But I’m worried about Matt Henry. That son of a btich destroyed India in the World Cup semi-final in Manchester two years back. And he’s back to form. He kind of destroyed England’s top order man. I think he took all- Burns, Crawley, Root and another guy.

Dude- The surprising fact is that he came to England as a back-up pacer with the likes of Boult, Southee and Wagner being the first choices.

I- Exactly. But I’m sure they’ll go with him surely in the final as reports say it will be overcast and he’s gonna be handy in seam conditions. Hope Rohit passes that early swinging ball phase.
