The Longing Within

Her husband was getting back from the devastating war after one long year. And he finally put his feet on his hometown with a hint of smile on his worn out and drained face that had lost all its charm and light in the horrors of the war, yet he managed to bear a smile for his beloved wife. Their happiness knew no bounds as they kissed each other with eyes all wet. They realized that night how much they had missed each other in the last one long year as they made passionate love, and their bodies and spirits bonded together over a common feeling of longing and love; and they escaped for some time from all this horror and utter despair and hopelessness. As their bodies reunited, they transpired into this state of nothingness; a state where they only felt eternal love and paradise. And a drop of tear befell upon the naked floor from her drained eyes like that first bit of rain after a long hot summer.

She felt as if she had accomplished all the love and lust that was lost a year ago; she felt a sense of hope and positivity flowing through her veins as she felt him inside her. Not only his body but also his soul penetrated through her through a physical hole but consequently filling her inside hole of hopelessness and hollowness. She experienced a sense of completeness and contentment as she orgasmed for the first time in the last twelve months. That sent through her body a trembling effect as if he had finally reached her soul and woke her up from a deep slumber. And eventually she woke up. Her inner self woke up from the slumber that the previous year was; she woke up from the constant waiting and anticipation of her husband’s arrival; she woke up from the horrible dreams she had of the war and what it had done to their marriage; and this time she didn’t let him go; she held her as tight as she could, like the branches and roots of a very old tree.

But she couldn’t comprehend the reasons for the war. She never understood the point of it all as the war only resulted in devastation and destruction of precious innocent lives. She could feel the pain and internal suffering her husband must have gone through in the past year. But she knew this was what a war did to people. People who participated in this, returned from it alive but leaving their souls behind in those warfields filled with corpses of innumerable innocent lives who were only mere pawns in a rather bigger game of politics and propaganda. But she could do nothing about it.

Hence, she decided as long as her husband was staying with her, she would flourish all her love and affection towards him. She would suffer with him; cry with him; laugh with him all along. She would never let her husband go away from her ever again. She would never let her husband be a victim of this endless, pointless and meaningless war at any point at all.
